Sunroom ideas: 19 room designs that let the light in

bedroom design simple ideas

"Often, people have styling and décor items in their home that can be utilized in the bedroom." Sometimes, that trendy lampshade that didn't quite fit in the living room looks just right next to your bed. Stephanie Beverly is the principal interior designer and lead artist at Twelve15 Design Studio based in Cincinnati, Ohio. Think of shades of blue, green, and earth-toned hues like sandy beige or brown that will remind you of the sky, the sea, the grass, and the earth. Make a minimalist space feel even airier by incorporating matching mirrors. Hang the mirrors over the nightstands to not only make the room feel bigger, but more dynamic.

Make Your Bed Minimally

There are plenty of natural accents to use, but none are quite as synonymous with minimalism as light wood. From accent furniture, floating shelves, or even an accent wall, light wood creates texture while still maintaining a calm vibe. Secondly, think about what you need and get rid of everything you don’t. For simple bedroom ideas to be effective, they to be uncluttered but not filled with unnecessary storage that distracts the eye – also a top tip if you want to make a small bedroom look bigger. This 700-square-foot apartment in Italy already featured great bones and plenty of light—it just needed some spatial differentiation.

Create some interest in your minimalist space by arranging furniture in an unexpected way. In this example, two nightstands are placed next to each other, creating a divide between the bed and chair. Walking into an all-white bedroom is instantly calming, but break up the blank-canvas feel of the room by incorporating white patterned wallpaper or curtains. A small and minimalist bedroom can be super gorgeous and inviting when tackled with a cozy aesthetic and function in mind. Make sure everything serves double purpose and that there is visual balance and you will create the ultimate sleeping sanctuary.

Accent With Wood

Below are 50 minimalist bedrooms that will help simplify your life. Creating texture without adding too many elements can be a tricky game, but Elisa Baran—designer of this bedroom for influencer Alisha Marie—found the perfect solution in limewash paint. One of the original house paints, limewash is a Belgian design staple, made of crushed lime, water, and pigments. The result is an aged-looking and textured paint perfect for bringing depth into a minimalist bedroom. “The limewash allows [Alisha Marie] to avoid using artwork as the textural paint is art in itself,” Baran says. “It feels calming and cool, a space filled with necessities only.” Ready to paint your walls with limewash?

Choose Timeless White Bedding

Very beachy, very relaxed, shiplap walls are the thing to have in a bedroom. Keep it super simple like in this bedroom, or add curtains to create a really zen sleep space, or hang houseplants from the frame to add loads of texture. Transform an entire bedroom for just the cost of a gallon of paint.

Hang Floral Wallpaper

Add a TV to create a light-filled lounge, or keep it a tech-free zone for rest, reading, and relaxation. If you already have a screened-in porch or are looking at front porch ideas that are enclosed, you're just a few steps away from a sunroom you can enjoy for much of the year. If your sun room has a view, take full advantage by arranging your sun room furniture to face the windows. This inevitably means that your flooring needs to be able to withstand a barrage of wet feet and muddy paws.

Minimalist studio bedroom

Here architect and furniture designer Alessandro Preda designed a sheet-rock partition to conceal the bed. She stopped short of extending it to the ceiling to allow the sunshine to permeate. Don’t have the budget (or super) to allow for architectural elements? The linear metal bed design has a slat set on the headboard and a subtle design. It is easy to dismantle and assemble, and it is an excellent option if you constantly change locations or if you live in a rented apartment. This metal bed design should be at the top of your list if you are looking for a minimalistic, modern design.

Add Striking Accents

In this Connecticut sunroom, designer Chango & Co.'s well-edited furniture selection creates a calming atmosphere free of any visual clutter. At the same time, larger furniture silhouettes ensure the space is still cozy, while black drapery hardware and a pair of oversized pendants add just enough contrast to keep things interesting. While some sunroom ideas are fully finished bonus rooms with lots of windows, others are glorified patio ideas; think brick pavers with walls and a roof. If yours is the latter, consider adding insulation and a flooring that's more traditionally suited to indoors.

If you live in an especially warm or sunny climate and plan to spend a lot of time in the sunroom with the windows wide open, opt for outdoor furniture. Classic outdoor materials like wicker and teak will give your indoor-outdoor room vacation vibes, and the fabrics will be better suited to stand up to the UV rays flooding in. Inspired to take a more creative direction with your sunroom ideas? Parish Conservatories' Paul Zec says the company gets all manner of outside-the-box requests for its additions.

Here, designer Amy Sklar hangs light pink curtains from a gold rod to tie the bedroom color palette together. This room has just a hint of color with all those lovely peachy, blush hues. Again so easy to style differently too — add darker colors for a more moody, wintery feel, add golds to go more glam, or even add subtle prints for a cute boho feel. Though it can feel sterile if you don't do it right, sticking to a simple color palette and streamlined pieces can help your bedroom feel purposefully sparse. If you’re looking for cozy bedroom ideas to turn your space into an oasis, there are a number of simple strategies that will make any bedroom feel warmer and more inviting.

You can grab shiplap wall panels from Wayfair to recreate the look. You can install one yourself by picking up this Murphy bed from Wayfair and setting it up in your bedroom. Real Homes is part of Future plc, an international media group and leading digital publisher.

Now, you can DIY the look with just cladding but we have also seen some fab wallpaper that replicates the look without the hassle. If you're a smitten kitten with this pink bedroom look, take your space to the playful side and be inspired further to decorate with blush pink. It's all about creating optical trickery with a two-tone color approach. We love a good snake plant or a Philodendron in the bedroom because they are basically indestructible and add a lot of charm.

This blogger upgraded her simple bedroom dresser using scrap paper, Plaid Royal Coat Decoupage and a blueprint copy of one of her favorite photos. It's a project you can try at home for less, as only five materials are needed. Turn your wardrobe into room decor by putting a clothing rack out in the open. To recreate this sleek style, you'll need two ladders, two wooden planks for the shoe platforms and a wooden rod to hang clothes.

Pile up throw pillow and blankets on the bed and keep things soft underfoot with a large area rug and small rug layered on top. Our guide to the best duvet covers and bedding sets brings you our favorite tried and tested bed linen for combining style and comfort. Although you won't typically find lots of pattern in a minimalist bedroom scheme, it isn't unheard of — especially if you use it in small doses. Allow a little detail alongside simpler designs in throw pillows, prints, and even wall color. Adapting some minimalist small bedroom ideas can help you feel less cluttered in your space. Color enthusiasts run a mile, and cute throw pillow hoarders left the building a long time ago.

Proper lighting in a child’s room is essential for creating a comfortable and functional environment. Maximize the natural light in the room by drawing the curtains back or raising the shades. This will give the room a cheerful look, and have mood-boosting benefits. Consider the lighting design to ensure that light is available at all levels and areas of the room. A central ceiling light is useful for both ambient lighting and creating a striking visual element.

10 Easy and Inexpensive Ideas for Decorating Your Childs Bedroom

Take note from designer Emily Henderson and start with an oak bed frame and matching nightstands. For a modern farmhouse feel, install white wood paneling all the way to the ceiling — which works particularly well when paired with exposed beams and ceilings. To elevate the vintage-inspired look, Liz Williams Interiors adds a taper candle chandelier and canopy bed. House plants are the most organic of all the bedroom decorating ideas out there and they are such a great way to add calming or vibrant colors to your bedroom space.

Choose a Ramp

Add a bit of contrast to an all-white bedroom by bringing in jet black elements. Here, interior designer Stephanie Brown paints the window rails black, hang a dark curtain rod and opts for a black bed frame. The quickest way to give your traditional bedroom decor an upgrade to a hotel feel is to keep things symmetrical. Match your bedside tables, the bedside lights, and the cushions too, just double up on everything — making this one of the easiest bedroom ideas. This will add a sense of balance to your room, plus it all just feels fancier. Oversized table lamps placed on either side of a bed are the perfect bedroom lighting idea and instantly give a very hotel-like vibe to a space.

Maximize Storage

This metal bed design features eye-catching geometric designs or patterns that will become your bedroom's focal point. With a geometric slatted design on the headboard and footboard, this bed frame brings a touch of modern elegance to any bedroom. Replace your current bed with a geometric one to give your bedroom a new look and romantic feel. We know shiplap is controversial, but the kind in this coastal bedroom is seriously reminiscent of driftwood and helps give the space a more rustic feeling. Dominique DeLaney cleverly gave the classic blue-and-white color scheme a twist by incorporating multiple textures, from the walls to the bed.

Mix White and Wood

If you’re styling a bedroom for you and a partner, sit down with each other and figure out your needs as outlined above. Since you both might have different priorities for the space, you’ll likely need to compromise. In any case, it’s likely your best bet to look into a storage bed or some under-the-bed storage if you’re trying to keep double the amount of belongings in one small bedroom. According to Home Advisor, the average cost to build a simple covered patio enclosure ranges from around $8,000 to over $25,000, with the average national cost hovering around $16,000.

Create a Flex Space

Symmetry is one word Clara Jung, principal of Banner Day Interiors, kept in mind when designing this bedroom full of neutrals. The pairs of wooden nightstands, table lamps and mirrors give the space a cohesive feel. If you prefer warmth over cool tones, layer in earthy tones like beige, brown and tannish pinks.

In this room, a largely neutral palette is built upon with a green pattern on the wallpaper, and injections of sunshine yellow. Kaitlin Madden Armon is a writer and editor covering all things home. Her work has appeared in Real Homes, Architectural Digest, Martha Stewart Living, Refinery29, Modern Luxury Interiors, Wayfair, The Design Network, and lots more. She graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in journalism and currently lives in Connecticut with her husband, three kids, and black lab. Everyone loves a sunny spot, so why not make room for the whole family with a large sectional couch?

How can you decorate a bedroom on a budget?

Adding greenery to your coastal bedroom can really enhance the outdoor, cabana-like feel of the space. This bedroom by Maggie Cruz opens up to the pool, so a calm interior that didn't compete with the landscaping was essential. Reminiscent of a luxe hotel, this all-white bed looks bright, clean and polished. You want a small home office to fit seamlessly into your bedroom decor, so pick furniture and accessories that match the room's style. Let's be honest, you don't want a massive ergonomic office chair and a huge cumbersome desk, so go for slimline, stylish office furniture that could even double up as a dressing table.

Choose Timeless White Bedding

“A coverlet versus a large duvet can help create interest without overwhelming the overall scheme,” says Cheek. Opt for painting just the trim instead for maximum impact with minimal square footage à la Augusta Hoffman. Keeping your bed on the floor isn’t just for frat boys and recent college graduates, it’s also for chic minimalists—especially when paired with draping linen bedding. Get inspired with this look by South African architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens. Use the gallery wall palette to inspire soothing decor displayed in this Dawson Design Group bedroom.

Mix Black, White, and Wood

This also shows that a feature wall doesn't have to be behind your bed, either. Use bespoke joinery like this to highlight interesting shapes or dramatic ceiling heights to amazing effect. Bedroom storage is a must, but trying to squeeze in a place to keep all your clothes, bedding, shoes, and more, can be tricky. For this reason, we say keep your storage as discreet as possible so your room isn't just overwhelmed by furniture.

bedroom design simple ideas

“Don't try to cram too many activities into a room where you are short on space,” says Jenkins, who recommends leaving the desk and television out. Use a four-poster bed to add volume without the bulk, a trick from designer Luis Laplace. Interior designer Victoria Ninette opts for frosted globe lighting to make a subtle statement. No need to pile your bed with dozens of pillows and covers you don't plan on using. Style your bed simply with one accent pillow and a blanket covering the foot of your bed.

In a small and unfussy bedroom, we don't have time to entertain furniture that doesn't do double duty. Choose multi-functioning furniture pieces (emphasis on the multi) made with tiny spaces in mind. Think seating with storage like ottomans where you could keep blankets, shelves that double up as minimalist decor, and nightstands with drawers. If you’re looking for apartment bedroom ideas, choosing a standout bed is a great way to inject character into a room that is either low on space for decor or restricted by a rental agreement.

Take a cue from the textiles and other colors in the room and coat the trim or ceiling in a fun color. No matter what room you're designing, it’s always a good idea to start with a clear understanding of what you’ll have a spot for and where it will best fit. “For a small bedroom, we recommend drawing a furniture plan to optimize layout,” says Atlanta designer Virginia Cheek. Simply grab a ruler, pen, and blank sheet of paper to illustrate your space by substituting the dimensions of the room in feet for inches. When it comes to decorating small spaces, there are certain doss and don'ts that will help you make the most of your square footage without sacrificing its design.

It is simply a necessity, and thus, proper considerations should be made before purchasing it. Beyond its aesthetic significance, a well-chosen sofa set will transform your living room into a haven of style, comfort and social connection. Not everyone’s painting skills are worthy of a wall display, so this is a good time to buy a wall mural instead. Wall murals are available in diverse designs, from natural scenes and fantasy themes to sports and favorite characters, so you are sure to find one that suits your child’s interests. From low-cost paint projects to clever furniture redesigns, you can transform your child’s room into a space they enjoy while staying within your budget.

Constructed by STX Europe in Saint-Nazaire, the ship was launched in January 2009, completed in January 2010, and entered service in March 2010. A prepaid Teen Card, for 30 or 50 euros, is also available, which doubles as a cabin key and offers under-18s the opportunity to buy items onboard. Outside, there's a tennis and general sports court at the back of the ship on Deck 16, which is open from 9 a.m.

The exclusive meals also allowed passengers to meet and interact with celebrities. In 2021, the liner was drydocked for a USD 140 million reconstruction and refurbishment project. The project includes stretching the vessel by 23 m (76 ft) by cutting it in half and inserting midship a pre-fabricated section (hull and superstructure). Magnifica is of MSC's Musica-class vessels, with sisters Musica, Orchestra, Poesia.

A sports bar boasts large TV screens and cigar aficionados have a clubby-style room just for them. While English is the main onboard language, MSC attracts passengers from mainland Europe and beyond. Also, unlike the majority of cruise lines, passengers embark and disembark at different ports of call, so you can expect a change in the onboard demographics along the way. It is a credit to members of the crew in all departments who manage to switch seamlessly from one language to another. The neighbouring Juniors Club is for 7 to 11-year-olds and has the same opening hours as the Miniclub.

Msc Magnifica Staterooms

Magnifica has complimentary kids' club programmes and separate dedicated facilities for youngsters of all ages, plus children's menus in every restaurant where waiters make a huge fuss of youngsters. Although babysitting isn't provided, the Kids Around the Clock for-fee service offers supervised late-night play and napping from 11 p.m. There's also a one-hour babycare service for children aged from 1 to under 3, where babies and tots can be left in the care of the Miniclub staff from 11 a.m. This is definitely a ship where parents won't get any stern looks or glares when their children are having fun.

The further you are from the pool the quieter it is, particularly towards the back of the ship, which is a pleasant place to read and snooze in relative peace. In common with many cruise ships, "chair hogs" can be an issue on sunny days. MSC states that towels and objects left unattended on loungers for more than 30 minutes "may" be removed and taken to the reception. Away from the lounging areas around the pools is the quiet haven Top 16, which, as the name implies, is situated overlooking the bow at the top of the ship on Deck 16. This private sun spot, with a bar, two splash pools and showers, is a for-fee area (free to Aurea passengers) that is open from 7 a.m. Rattan loungers and cabanas cost 30 euros for the day or 15 euros for the afternoon (from 3 p.m.), with reduced rates available for the entire cruise.

Ship's largest accommodations are of 335 ft (31m2 - Deluxe Suite). Magnifica was MSC's first liner to try the Canada-New England market with departures from homeport NYC New York (right after the maiden season in Mediterranean 2010). By annual passenger shipping volumes, MSC is ranked the world's 3rd largest cruise shipowner - following only Carnival Corporation and RCG-Royal Caribbean Group.

Virtual World packages are available and cover unlimited use of the 4D cinema, bowling and billiard games. The two lane bowling alley can be found in the T32 disco on Deck 14, which is open during the day. Although a bit older (refurbished in 2021), the ship was nice and clean with many amenities. Although not many restaurants as other larger cruise ships, it met our expectations for a five day cruise. Our cabin attendant was very attentive to our request and was very pleasant to speak with.

Whether it's an adventurous cruise to the Red Sea, or a historically-focused voyage to Northern Europe, MSC can take you there in style. Often cruise lines offer special rates that cannot be displayed to the general public. By registering with Cruise.com you will be able to view these special rates and offers.

Movies are shown here throughout the day and bingo is also played here. Try your luck at the many games at the huge casino or dance until dawn at the club. A two-lane bowling alley is a fun place for everyone in the family.

The 24-hour room service also means that parents can ask for warm milk to be brought to the cabin at any time, and for kids' meals to be reheated at any time of the day. It is also worth noting that MSC offers a baby laundry service which washes the clothes of children up to the age of 6 in a separate machine using a sanitising programme and gentle detergents to clean at temperatures as low as 30C. There is a small Virtual World video games arcade, at extra charge, on Deck 14 in a space that also includes the 4D cinema (where the seats move and viewers experience effects such as blasts of air). Passengers can choose from a selection of around six films, including some suitable for younger children.

Although it is designed to stop people having to wait to use equipment at peak times, this can be frustrating for dedicated gym goers that want to train for longer, particularly as we found the gym was never overly busy. However, there is nothing to stop keen exercisers from re-starting the machines after they stop, if nobody is waiting. The Royal Theatre is a raked split-level venue located at the front of the ship on Decks 6 and 7, which can seat 850 passengers in the lower auditorium and 292 on the upper level. It's an impressive looking venue, with a myriad of lights twinkling in the walls and ceiling before the house lights go down for the show.

Entertainment & Leisure

If you prefer a quieter evening, just step out onto the deck for a romantic drink under the stars. Teens are divided into two age groups, 12 to 14 and 15 to 17, called Young Club and Teens Club respectively. They have their own suitably cool and grown-up area on Deck 14, which is also close to the small games arcade and 4D cinema. Various activities are arranged throughout the day for each group, including sports, challenge games, karaoke, themed parties and a nightly disco. They can also go to the Generation Dinner in the buffet restaurant with members of the entertainment team, which is a free service. The large fitness centre, adjoining the spa on Deck 13, occupies a great spot at the front of the ship with panoramic windows overlooking the bow as well as the port and starboard sides.

Mediterranean

Each of the MSC cruise ships will be fitted with thousands of connectivity points, digital access points, iBeacons (Bluetooth) and hundreds of interactive digital screens throughout the ship. In all staterooms will be implemented RFID (radio-frequency identification) and NFC (near-field communication) access technologies. The Jean Louis David salon -- part of a well-known hairdressing chain in mainland Europe -- is situated at the entrance to the spa and overlooks the sea. It has four wash basins and styling stations, and offers cutting and styling services for men and women, again using a variety of different products (including Japanese Shu Uemura products) rather than one particular brand. Services include a shampoo and style for 30 euros, 44 euros for a colour, and 25 euros for a men's cut and finish. Beauty services include manicures for 55 euros and a full make-up session for 33 euros.

Overall, this was a nice cruise and will recommend to anyone looking for a short cruise. Kids sail free on select sailings, and there are various youth programs for children ages 3-17, including DoremiLand's Mini and Junior Clubs. A cruise to the Western Caribbean with MSC Cruises offers travelers both relaxation and adventure. Experience the magnificent MSC Magnifica for the cruise of a lifetime. The voyage's prices are inclusive of 15 shore excursions, a Dine & Drink Package, 30% onboard laundry discount.

The new program will be implemented fleetwide, but first introduced on MSC Meraviglia. MSC Magnifica (2010-built, last refurbished in 2021/stretched) is the fourth and last of the Musica-class MSC cruise ships - together with Musica, Orchestra and Poesia. All children up to the age of 11 are issued with an electronic bracelet for the duration of the cruise, which shows their name and cabin number and enables kids' club staff to contact parents quickly if necessary. On Deck 7 is the large walk-through photo gallery (which also sells cameras and photographic equipment), a future cruise desk, and the Cyber Cafe, which is open 24 hours a day and has eight terminals available for passengers to use. On the same deck is the library (also open 24 hours), which, as expected, is a very quiet and peaceful spot, with deep padded chairs and a restful green decor.

In every way, MSC Magnifica lives up to her name – she offers a cruise that’s memorably magnificent. She features a pool with plenty of lounges and a retractable roof, so you’ll be comfortable even if the weather is a bit nippy. Don’t miss a chance to attend a screening at the 4D theater, where your seat will move you as you watch the movie. Spend a sea day at the Aurea Spa, which offers you a tranquil atmosphere where you can choose from a variety of enticing options, like aromatherapy, hot stone massages or cleansing facials. After this refreshing experience you’ll want to spend the night on the town, so to speak, so have dinner at the glamorous L’Edera Main Dining Room and then put it all on black at the MSC Magnifica’s onboard casino. Evening entertainment is varied and includes a spectacular casino, disco, 4D cinema, cigar lounge, plush 1,200 seat theatre and live music in the bar lounges.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Ship's room service is limited to a menu including cold sandwiches and Continental Breakfast. Midnight buffets vary, ranging from traditional shipboard gala affair to themed snack-type offerings. To 9 p.m., is located forward on Deck 13 and is a very restful and tranquil area. There are a total of 10 treatment rooms, including some used for couples and Thalassotherapy treatments. Unlike spas on many cruise ships, which are managed by large external spa chains, the Aurea is run by MSC.

magnifica cruise ship

The itineraries varied from 2-night (mini-cruise) to 14-night visiting destinations in the Mediterranean, Canary Islands, Madeira, Baltic Sea, Northern Europe. Bookings on Magnifica's UK cruises opened on September 12, 2019, with prices from GBP 149 pp (~EUR 167 / mini-cruise) and GBP 549 pp (~EUR 615 / Norwegian Fjords). Follows the complete list of MSC Magnifica restaurants and food bars. The 2500-passenger ship MSC Magnifica sailed for the first time in March 2010 with a series of Mediterranean voyages. Magnifica is the first MSC cruise ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean to New York, a fact that is quite unusual for a European company. So while that will be a minus for some, it's a plus for passengers who enjoy a more traditional style of cruising with less all-singing all-dancing amenities.

Informal nights mean a dress or trousers for women and jacket and trousers (no jeans) for men. For casual nights more or less anything goes (aside from shorts and swimwear), including jeans, T-shirts and sportswear. In common with most cruise ships, the spa treatments are not cheap. They range from 50 euros for a 20-minute head massage to 195 euros for 80-minute treatments such as a Thai massage. As expected, there are usually deals and discounts available early in the cruise and on shore days.

The spa uses its own Aurea products alongside others such as the Italian brand Collistar and French-owned Carita, thus providing more choice than other spas. In our experience there was, thankfully, none of the heavy sales pitch that can come at the end of a treatment, and the therapist simply pointed out that products were available. Again, there are often discounts on treatments and products, which are flagged up in the daily programme. Loungers, available for everyone to use, are also set out on Deck 14, including the area that circles Le Grand Bleu pool and beyond.

Dry cleaning ranges from 3.50 euros per item of underwear to 20 euros for a man's suit, and laundry ranges from 1.70 euros for a handkerchief and 2.50 euros for underwear to 13 euros for an evening dress. A new laundry package is also available priced at 30 euros for up to 20 items per cabin, per cruise, or 50 euros for up to 40 items. A special laundry service is also available for baby clothing (see MSC Magnifica for Families). Two large 24-hour reception and guest services' desks are located midship on Deck 5.

The true architectural jewel of downtown Charlottetown is the majestic St. Dunstan’s Basilica. Adorned by three copper spires visible virtually anywhere in the city, the church adds to the Victorian splendor of the downtown core. Cruising along the Ottawa River you’ll find yourself situated directly between predominantly English-speaking Ontario and French-speaking Quebec, basking in a unique blend of Canada’s founding cultures.
